June 11, 2020: Make You Feel My Love

AdeleThe June meeting of the Austin Ukulele Society was a terrific experience for all who joined in! Over 225 ukulele players from all around the world, including Australia, Brazil, numerous U.S. locales and several provinces of Canada, greeted each other, Bob, Jen and Lyda and got ready to make music together. πŸ™‚ We kicked off the meeting by warming up our fingers and voices with Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” before learning to strum and pick the beautiful ballad “Make You Feel My Love.” Written and recorded by Bob Dylan in 1997, it has been a hit for several great artists, but made most famous by Adele, who recorded it on her first album in 2008.

Bob took us through some very helpful exercises which covered chord progressions, strum styles, tips on making chord changes, and options for various chord formations. He also spent time on finger-picking techniques that had many of us “never-pickers” feeling a lot more confident about picking “Make You Feel My Love” as well as practicing it more in the future. πŸ™‚ After we learned all of the parts of “Make You Feel My Love,” we played it through a couple of times. We wrapped up our meeting, as always, with Wilie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.”

A big thanks to Bob Guz for sharing his expertise, Lyda Guz for timely presenting of the PowerPoint slides, and Jen Richardson for moderating and responding to the live commenting. Please send us an email (austinukes @ gmail.com) if you’d like to participate in the collaborative video for “Make You Feel My Love” that our friend Marty Porter will produce later this month.
