The Austin Ukulele Society (AUS) is all about enjoying the ukulele and having fun with people who share our affection for this wonderful instrument. We are proud to be a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Our mission is to:
- Provide a supportive environment to share and learn new songs and build playing skills;
- Spread the word about opportunities to see and hear musicians who play or compose for the ukulele;
- Promote the ukulele in the βLive Music Capital of the Worldβ through performances and education; and, of course,
- Have fun!
To join us, just show up at one of our monthly meetings! There is no fee to participate. All are welcome to join β from beginners to experienced players.
We meet on the second Thursday of each month, 7:00 to 9:00pm. During our meetings we have group sing-and-strum-a-longs and educational sessions. We learn a new song in detail at every meeting. We also set aside time for a brief “open mic” for individuals to get up and share a solo tune (purely voluntary!). In addition to our monthly in-person meetings, we have a quarterly virtual meeting on our YouTube channel (follow us there for notifications).
In addition to our monthly meetings, the AUS has their hand in many ukulele activities around Austin including open mic nights, live performances, community/charitable efforts, and more.
Location: Our meetings take place at the Memorial United Methodist Church located at 6100 Berkman Drive, Austin, TX 78723. We meet in the gym.
Map it!
For anyone who might be attending for the first time, the church is pretty easy to find – but it is big. You’ll enter from Berkman Dr. using a ‘one way’ entrance and you can park alongside or behind the church. Past the canopied main church entrance, on the same side of the building, there is another entrance on the right. Walk in there and you’ll be in the gym. From there simply follow the sounds of ukuleles tuning up. π
Bob Guz and Jen Richardson, the Austin Ukulele Society’s co-founders, warmly invite you to join the fun! Come play music, make new friends, learn new songs and strums, and have a great time.
Please add yourself to our mailing list, here. Weβll keep you up-to-date on our meetings and other ukulele-related activities around Austin. Like us on FaceBook here and follow us on our YouTube Channel.
We hope to see you soon!
