July 14, 2016: Africa

Toto - AfricaOur July 2016 meeting created a truly special atmosphere in the room, as we learned the beloved Toto hit from the early 80’s, “Africa.” This song is a bit more complex than some of the songs we’ve learned recently, as the number of beats per chord varies in the refrain. However, Bob patiently led us to success with exercises that gave us a chance to practice each chord progression in the song. After practicing the song a few times, we sounded great and Bob’s solo complemented our efforts beautifully. 🙂

You can download the lyrics and chords for “Africa” or download a copy of the presentation (what we project up on the wall for all to follow along).

We were also thrilled during the Open Mic portion of the evening by the UT Ukes and their performance of “Royals” and Ray Carr’s wonderful rendition of “Comes Love.”
