About Us

The Austin Ukulele Society (AUS) is all about enjoying the ukulele and having fun with people who share our affection for this wonderful instrument. We are proud to be a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Our mission is to:

  • Provide a supportive environment to share and learn new songs and build playing skills;
  • Spread the word about opportunities to see and hear musicians who play or compose for the ukulele;
  • Promote the ukulele in the “Live Music Capital of the World” through performances and education; and, of course,
  • Have fun!

To join us, just show up at one of our monthly meetings! There is no fee to participate. All are welcome to join – from beginners to experienced players.

We meet on the second Thursday of each month, 7:00 to 9:00pm. During our meetings we have group sing-and-strum-a-longs and educational sessions. We learn a new song in detail at every meeting. We also set aside time for a brief “open mic” for individuals to get up and share a solo tune (purely voluntary!). In addition to our monthly in-person meetings, we have a quarterly virtual meeting on our YouTube channel (follow us there for notifications).

In addition to our monthly meetings, the AUS has their hand in many ukulele activities around Austin including open mic nights, live performances, community/charitable efforts, and more.

Location: Our meetings take place at St. John’s United Methodist Church, located at 2140 Allandale Rd, Austin, TX 78756. We meet in the Great Hall on the second floor. Map it!

Parking is available on the Wynona Ave. and White Rock Dr. sides of the church. You can also park in the Lamar Middle School lots across White Rock Dr. from the church. Street parking is available all along Wynona Ave.

For anyone who might be attending for the first time, the entrance to St. John’s is on the Wynona Ave. side of the church. Turn left in the lobby and take the stairs up to the Great Hall on the second floor; an elevator is available behind the stairs. From there simply follow the sounds of ukuleles tuning up. 🙂

Bob Guz and Jen Richardson, the Austin Ukulele Society’s co-founders, warmly invite you to join the fun! Come play music, make new friends, learn new songs and strums, and have a great time. Together with the indispensable input of Lyda Guz, Lori Merlino, Jodi Cadle, and Jana Israel, Bob and Jen lead the organization. This advisory committee meets monthly to manage all business logistics. More info (and photos) coming soon!
